As a regional and inclusive preparatory event for the high-level political forum (HLPF) on sustainable development, the Fifth Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) will engage member States, United Nations bodies, international organizations, major groups and other stakeholders in highlighting regional and subregional perspectives on the theme of the HLPF 2018, “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies”. The Forum will review in depth the cluster of Sustainable Development Goals to be discussed at the HLPF — Goals 6 (clean water and sanitation), 7 (affordable and clean energy), 11 (sustainable cities and communities), 12 (responsible consumption and production), 15 (life on land) and 17 (partnership for the Goals) — as well as the interlinkages within the cluster and with other Goals. The Forum will support the presentation of voluntary national reviews and will assess the progress made with regard to the regional road map for implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific.
The event will be preceded by a civil society forum, capacity building workshop for countries submitting Voluntary National Reports to the HLPF, and other events.
The 2018 ESCAP ADB UNDP SDG Partnership Report will be launched on 28 March 2018 at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok,as part of the fifth Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD). In alignment with the theme of HLPF and APFSD 2018, the report provides perspectives on ‘transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies in Asia and the Pacific’. It highlights the changing risk profile in the region and includes in its discussion various sources of risk, their impact on critical human systems and the policies needed to strengthen resilience. The launch event will include a high level panel discussion and it will be jointly organized by ESCAP, ADB and UNDP.
Pursuant to ESCAP resolution 72/6 Committing to the effective implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific, Governments and other stakeholders convened at the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD 2017) on the theme of “Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing Asia-Pacific.”
As an inclusive regional intergovernmental forum, APFSD 2017 engaged member States, United Nations and other institutions, and major groups and other stakeholders in dialogue on (1) Regional perspectives on the implementation, follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including in depth review of the theme and SDGs: 1, 2, 3, 5, 9 and 14 and 17, the cluster of goals to be discussed by the High-level political forum on sustainable development (HLPF) in 2017; and (2) Strengthening implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific, including the consideration of a draft regional road map for implementing the 2030 Agenda in Asia and the Pacific, with a view to strengthening implementation efforts.
