An assessment of 22 countries in Asia on a spectrum of civic space shows that 94 per cent of people live in countries with closed, repressed or obstructed civic spaces. The report rates 4 countries as “closed”, 6 as “repressed” and 10 “obstructed”. Even in some developed countries in the region, civic space is found to be “narrowed”, the second most open category after “open”.
